Braun Thermometer REVIEW

Receiving a Braun thermometer to review was great timing as Little Miss Scarlett suffered with a sickness bug over the weekend. A great opportunity to road test the Braun ThermoScan 3 (IRT 3020).

The thermometer was so quick and easy to use on a lethergic & ill Scarlett. You just pop the tip into her ear canal and press the button to get an accurate temperature reading in only one second. It works by measuring the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and the surrounding tissues. Scarlett was happy to have her temperature read this way, and barely flinched, even with the beep to indicate the reading was complete. The whole process is quick and accurate.

For hygiene reasons, you replace the little plastic tips (lens filters LF20) after every use, and these are included (a pack of 20 to be exact), and more can easily be purchased (at the time of writing, you can buy a pack of 40 on Amazon UK for £5.29).

The Braun ThermoScan 3 is a compact version, so as well as being a vital instrument in our at-home first aid/medicine box, this is a great size when travelling on long day trips or holidays.

One thing I would like to see on future models is a label on the thermometer handle where you can write the children's (and adults) healthy temperature, so when you check their temperature when sick it's easier to see if it deviates.

The battery is included so it's ready to go straight out of the box, and to help prolong the battery life, the thermometer switches off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity.

For my American readers, you can change the standard Celsius setting to Fahrenheit easily (instructions in the booklet).

The box says it works for the whole family, and it can be used from 0+ months. Please do remember that normal temperatures differ between ages, but a simple table showing the 'normal ThermoScan ranges by age' is included in the instruction booklet.

This is a great piece of kit for our at-home first-aid/medicine box. We bought a Braun thermometer over four years ago when Tristan was a newborn, and it was a fantastic tool to help me, as a new parent, when Tristan became unwell. I'm very pleased with both thermometers, and would recommend the Braun ThermoScan range to my mummy friends.
