With Halloween right around the corner, I was asked to try out one of the Sailor Moon costumes from Fancy Dress Queen, an online fancy dress retailer based in Leeds.
Sailor Moon became a Japanese TV series in 1992, where we follow the adventures of Usagi Tsukino, a middle school student, who is given the power to become the Sailor Soldier Sailor Moon! Usagi's first mission is to assemble a team of Sailor Soldiers, of which Sailor Mercury is the first!
Sailor Mercury, or Ami Mizuno, possesses powers associated with water, is highly intelligent, and can use a supercomputer to collect information of various battle factors.
Here I am as Sailor Mercury!
I accessorised the look with a blue wig from a pound shop, and used blue eye-shadow to compliment the blue costume.
The dress fitted wonderfully, but is very short, especially at the sides. I loved the tulle material under the skirt as it helped puff out the skirt. Despite the top being white, it wasn't overly see-through, and I adored the giant vibrant blue bows on the collar and back of the skirt.
The only problem I had is that due to my short stubby fingers (sob), the glove fingers were a tad too long!
Sailor Mercury is available is 5 sizes: Small (UK 8/10), Medium (UK 10/12), Large (UK 12/14), XLarge (UK 14) and XXLarge (UK 16). I found the sizing true to size, but if you are curvy on top like me, you may wish to consider going up one size.
I love the selection of costumes on the Fancy Dress Queen website. As well as the traditional Halloween and generic costumes and accessories, they also have stunning cosplay outfits from Final Fantasy, Alice in Wonderland, and Legend of Zelda!
You can find Fancy Dress Queen online, and on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
