Family Howe Update

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my little family lifestyle blog, Jelly Rose!

Now Scarlett is 2.5 years old, and Tristan has started Year One at school, I thought I would give brief update on how we are all getting along.

Tristan

Tristan turned 5 years old over the summer and we celebrated with a big dinosaur-themed party with all his little friends. Being a summer baby, Tristan is one of the youngest in his class, and is a tad behind the national average, but we've been making sure we supplement school with home-learning on the evenings and weekends.

Tristan has always shown great imagination and he adores dressing up in costumes. Being a typical boy, he loves the great outdoors, running around, looking for bugs & frogs, and pretending to camp in the garden by using an old blanket for a den, and twigs to make a faux-fire.

Tristan has been taking swimming lessons for just over a year now, and his water confidence has sky-rocketed! He will swim very short distances, but will periodically put his feet down seemingly to check he's still safe in shallow water.

He's sadly started to grow out of characters like Thomas the Tank Engine and In The Night Garden, but now loves Ben 10, Power Rangers, Scooby Doo and all super heroes, especially Batman and Spiderman!

Scarlett

Scarlett is now 30 months old, and she is truly thriving and growing beautifully. Her verbal skills are beyond the norm, and she can easily construct a 6+ word sentence by herself. She seems to absorb adult conversation around her, and applies it correctly when she talks. We are still waiting for the potty training spark to hit though. Over the summer holidays, she would sporadically want to poo in the potty, but did not like doing wee-wees. We're giving her a month or so to allow her to understand herself more, and we hope that will help then we can start the potty training process again.

She is starting to out-grow afternoon naps, but will mostly sleep though the night from 8pm til 7am. Over the holidays we said bye-bye to her cot, and hello to a Minnie Mouse toddler bed. Unlike fruit-phobe Tristan, Scarlett gobbles up most fruits, with her favourites being strawberries and bananas.

We are still debating on nursery arrangements, but we will try and take advantage of the free 15 hours a week we are given once Scarlett turns 3 in March.

Now Tristan has returned to school, I have enrolled Scarlett into weekly baby ballet lessons. As she's not in a structured environment like nursery, she is a little unsure about having a teacher asking her to do various movements, but I'm sure she will get used to it in a few weeks.

Scarlett still adores Minnie Mouse and Doc McStuffins, but has also discovered Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, and Sheriff Callie.
