Hobbs House Bakery. Cafe and Cooking School REVIEW

Hobbs House has been on the quaint high street of Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire and serving the local community for five generations, and I was thrilled to be invited behind-the-scenes to see their bakery, cafe, and cooking school.

After the success of TV's Fabulous Baker Brothers featuring Henry and Tom from Hobbs House, they are keen to re-focus on the local area and have recently set-up a cafe and cooking school on-site.

The cafe is child friendly, with a little nook to store pushchairs, and high-chairs to borrow. The seating for the cafe is located on the ground floor and first floor, and in the warmer months, they open the back garden. I loved the little touches of having sheepskin throws on the bench-style seats, and the open kitchen means you can watch your breakfast or lunch being freshly made with local ingredients by the enthusiastic staff.

Jo from Hobbs House treated me to a cappucino and a gingerbread reindeer biscuit from the cafe while we chatted about the history of Hobbs House and its future endevours. We sat upstairs with the window view overlooking the clock tower. There's also a glorious fireplace - perfect for these chilly months.

Family Howe were also treated to some of Hobbs House delicious baked goodies to enjoy at home. We had their new sliced bread: the Sodbury (white) and the Tetbury (brown), a few iced shortcake biscuits and a packet of mince pies. Everything tasted delicious and fresh.

The mince pies were fantastic warmed up with a blob of cream on top. Lee really enjoyed a fish finger sandwich using the Sodbury loaf - the bread was soft and the crust deliciously chewy. And the Tetbury loaf was great toasted and buttered. Tristan and Scarlett loved the iced biscuits in the shape of a snowflake!

The cooking school is a recent endevour, and everyone can sign up to various classes including cake, bread, meat and even a game keeper masterclass. Henry leads the meat classes, and Tom hosts the bread classes!

They also run classes for children too, including chocolate, baking and cake classes. These are perfect for children aged 7 to 10, and 11 to 16.

You can see more on class information and how book a place their website:

I was delighted to meet Henry, one of the Fabulous Baker Brothers, on my visit too! Just like all the staff I met, he was very welcoming and enthusiastically keen to know more about my family lifestyle blog. How fabulous!

Hobbs House also has premises in Cirencester, Nailsworth and Tetbury

Chipping Sodbury is a beautiful place to visit, with many independent and family-run shops, and it truly is worth a visit. And of course, pop into Hobbs House for a bite to eat, and take away some of their delicious bakery goodies to enjoy at home!
