DIY Halloween: My costume!

Here is my costume for my friend's Halloween party! I'm a murder victim with a slit throat - and it was easy to achieve! I paired the makeup look with my German/Bavarian dirndl to be even more unique!

To create the dead face look, I mixed foundation with white facepaint to create a pale near-white face. I created the illusion of a sucken face by using light and dark grey eyeshadow around the eyes and cheekbones. I randomly added blue and purple eyeshadow patches to create bruising, plus a smidge of red facepaint under the eyes (just below the bottom lashes). I used the red facepaint to create redness on my nostrils and on one side of my mouth to give the impression of a recent nose and lip bleed.

The key to a flawless look is to blend, blend, blend! So that I didn't look too scary, I applied my usual black eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencil and a red lipstick.

The slit-throat effect was created easily using liquid latex, red and black facepaint and fake blood. All these items were bought from Amazon UK, and there are lots of YouTube tutorials to help guide you with this effect.

Everyone was thrilled to see the costume, and were amazed by the slit-throat effect (and a little grossed out by the hanging bits of "skin"). I was really pleased with the final results, especially as I hadn't practiced. I merely watched numerous YouTube videos!

Now, I need to start thinking of next year's costume to up the ante! Any ideas?

  9. This is a very creative costume. I was just commenting to my husband how expensive our boys' Halloween costumes were this year. It is better to do it yourself and save a little money.

  21. That is neat how you do that and make it sound easy. I never dress up for Halloween, we usually make it to three houses with my youngest so it is not worth the effort.
