Braun Thermometer REVIEW

Receiving a Braun thermometer to review was great timing as Little Miss Scarlett suffered with a sickness bug over the weekend. A great opportunity to road test the Braun ThermoScan 3 (IRT 3020).

The thermometer was so quick and easy to use on a lethergic & ill Scarlett. You just pop the tip into her ear canal and press the button to get an accurate temperature reading in only one second. It works by measuring the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and the surrounding tissues. Scarlett was happy to have her temperature read this way, and barely flinched, even with the beep to indicate the reading was complete. The whole process is quick and accurate.

For hygiene reasons, you replace the little plastic tips (lens filters LF20) after every use, and these are included (a pack of 20 to be exact), and more can easily be purchased (at the time of writing, you can buy a pack of 40 on Amazon UK for £5.29).

The Braun ThermoScan 3 is a compact version, so as well as being a vital instrument in our at-home first aid/medicine box, this is a great size when travelling on long day trips or holidays.

One thing I would like to see on future models is a label on the thermometer handle where you can write the children's (and adults) healthy temperature, so when you check their temperature when sick it's easier to see if it deviates.

The battery is included so it's ready to go straight out of the box, and to help prolong the battery life, the thermometer switches off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity.

For my American readers, you can change the standard Celsius setting to Fahrenheit easily (instructions in the booklet).

The box says it works for the whole family, and it can be used from 0+ months. Please do remember that normal temperatures differ between ages, but a simple table showing the 'normal ThermoScan ranges by age' is included in the instruction booklet.

This is a great piece of kit for our at-home first-aid/medicine box. We bought a Braun thermometer over four years ago when Tristan was a newborn, and it was a fantastic tool to help me, as a new parent, when Tristan became unwell. I'm very pleased with both thermometers, and would recommend the Braun ThermoScan range to my mummy friends.

  1. Quick and easy is good for taking a tempature when you have a sick child and they are squirming all over trying to get away. This is so much better than the way I had to do it many years ago.

  2. We have an older model of this and it makes life so much easier when it comes to taking the kids temperatures Especially when they're sick and don't want to be bothered..

  3. Any time you can take a childs temperature when they are sick and make it quick and painless, it is better for everyone. This looks like a newer improved model. Great information to have. thanks

  4. The easier companies make it for us to take kids temperatures the better. I like how you can cuddle your kid as you take the temperature to make it even easier.

  6. We have a thermometer similar to this one in our home and it makes life so much easier. My little one has asthma and runs fevers a lot and with the thermometer, I am able to see it as soon as it spikes and treat him for it right away.

  7. That looks really easy to use! We have a similar one, but it is a pain to use. I will have to get one of these! Thanks!

  8. That looks quick & easy unlike the traditional thermometer that you have to stick under your tongue or armpit!

  9. Those are some cute kids!
I wish I had one of those when my kid was younger. It was always so difficult trying to take her temperature.

  11. I absolutely HATE the thermometer we have right now... Every time one of the children are sick, I tell my husband that we will be buying a new one! Maybe I just need to take a deeper look at this one! Sounds like your Littles enjoyed it.. Maybe mine will as well!

  12. We have one of these and I love it! I just wish we had it when the kids were younger. That's when they had to try to hold one under their tongue. That did not work!

  17. We have always been fans of Braun, I had my first ear thermometer from them for my oldest. My husband made me get a new one as the other one was 13 years old when we had our youngest, he said while it was still working, technology had changed making the use of them easier.

  18. I'm amazed at how your kids sit still to get their temperature taken. My toddler hates anything in her ear so I had to get a new that does it using her forehead which she doesn't mind. Braun makes great products though.

  19. We have one of these and I love it. I've always been paranoid that I won't know when they have a fever, so I love that it's easy enough to use and quick enough that I don't have to fight with them.

  20. I love that they have come up with thermometers like this for kids. When I worked at a Dr's office they had a cool one that you slide across the forehead. Kids don't mind them at all.

  21. I love the size of the thermometer. We have an ear thermometer but it's a bit bulky. We do lots of traveling during the holiday season, so this would be a great addition to the luggage.
