DIY Halloween: Nail art

Today, I got a little creative with some easy nail art techniques!

Firstly, I gave myself a mini-manicure with the clippers, file and orange stick first. Then cleaned the nail surface with nail varnish remover. I then had a good think about what Halloween-y images I could recreate!

I decided on:
Ghost Face, Pumpkin, Blood Drip, Eerie Eyes and a Blood Splatter

All I needed was four nail colours: black, white, orange and red, plus a clear top coat. And for the detail, I used the Avon nail art tool and a straw.

I primed my nails with a a clear varnish, then did the base colours on each nail: white, orange, white, black and white.

Once the base coats are dry, I started on the detailing. Using a cling-film wrapped cotton pad, I dripped pools of black, white and red to use with the straw and nail art tool.

The Blood Splatter

This is actually easier that it looks! Just take a pool of red nail varnish, dip a straw end into it, then blow sharply through the straw so that varnish splatters out onto the nail. I recommend a paper towel underneath to catch any stray splats. Then, when dry, clean up your finger with nail varnish remover.

The Ghost and the Eerie Eyes

Using the dotting end of the nail art tool, I carefully dotted black varnish as two eyes and one open mouth for the Ghost. And for the Eerie Eyes, two large white circles, then a tiny black dot in the middle!

The Pumpkin

Using the nail brush end of the nail art tool, I very carefully and slowly drew out the pumpkin mouth, nose and mouth with black varnish.

The Blood Drip

I used the red varnish and painted the free end of the nail (similar to a French manicure), then carefully used the brush to drag globs of the red  varnish down the nail surface to give the impression it's dripping.

Protect your artwork by using a top coat. And here is my finished look!

  18. Very creative. When I was a teen, no one did nail art. I used to paint my nails and decorate them. Everyone thought I was weird. Guess I was ahead of the times ;)

  19. My sister is obsessed with nail art! I really should have done something fun like this with my nails for Halloween, but alas, I'm a mom with no time to paint my nails. The blood drip nail is my favorite one.
