New chapter: my weight-loss journey

Today marks a new chapter in my life........

Last week, I was shocked to find that I had tip-toed over 14 stone! I'm gutted, but I have been struggling with my weight since pre-kids. At school, I was on both the hockey & netball teams, plus walked to and from school (about a mile each way). Then, I started working in an office at aged 17.......I was static most of the day, eating snacks at my desk and the weight slowly piled on.

At school, I was a lovely size UK 10......pre-Tristan (aged 24) I was a 14....now I'm a 16/18. I'm not a big eater, but what I do eat is not healthy nor nutritious, and my only exercise (if you can truly call it that) is running around with my two children.

So, as of today, I begin a month or two of Slim Fast to kick-start my weight-loss programme, plus at-home exercise (I've recorded some programmes from the keep-fit tv channel) every other day. I've tried healthy eating & diets, but I have very little (aka none) willpower, so thought the Slim Fast way (aka nothing but three 100-calorie snacks, two shakes, one healthy meal a day) is strict and I can't be easily led into naughty temptations.

Once a month or two has passed (hopefully with decent results, fingers crossed), I can think about just embarking on a normal healthy eating diet. But first, I must be strict with myself and see results. I'm not aiming to be a size 6 supermodel (not gonna happen at 5ft 2", lol), but a healthy toned size 12/14 (approx 10-11 stone) would be a fantastic result. With my natural curves & boobs, I think it's a safe & healthy body size.

Also, publicising my weight-loss journey via this public blog is a great way to kick my bum into gear!

I also have two very important events to look good for.....
* Mid-September is my dear friend's wedding, so need to look fabulous
* May 2014 I'm Maid of Honour so need to look photo-ready So, that should be great motivation!

So....here it begins:
Day 1: 14 stone 1 pound

Please do share your tips & tricks to healthy eating & exercise whilst being a busy mum in the comment section. Your help & support is most appreciated.

Wish me luck everyone xxx

  1. Good Luck Viccy, I found a link on Facebook about the benefits of drinking Lemon Water, which i'm giving a go (started last night) and going to blog about my success (or failure) in due course! A step in the right direction for us both! x

    1. Hi Hayley,
Thank you! Please tell me more about the lemon water - I need to up my water intake and boring water is, well, boring! I love green and herbal teas, so that will help provide variety.

  3. Wishing you luck... Akhil has a great idea at replacing the sugar with honey, or have you ever tried agave. I use it instead of honey.

  4. Good luck!!! I think I always find a balanced diet is good, I always end up wanting the bad food more when I cut it out completely, so a little of something you like isn't bad. x

  5. I don't struggle with my weight, it has taken over. I am working hard on getting it down.
Good luck. Eat healthy, small meals, move more, drink water, sleep at least 8 hours.

  6. I am bad at giving advice about weight loss because for years I was a US 4 to 6 and my weight has shot up to an 8 to 10. So, I really need to start doing something too. I think my problem is the lack of exercise.

  7. Maybe we can encourage each other. The one tip I have found that works well is to eat lots of fiber filled foods. It really cuts down on hunger and cravings. :)

  8. One thing that worked for a friend of mine who was trying to lose weight was to start taking iodine. She was basically hyothyroid and while the thyroid pills helped, she didn't lose weight until she got onto iodine (the iodine in the salt is nearly not enough).

  9. Congrats on taking the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle. I hope you will consider giving yourself a cheat day once a week. It will help you stick to the diet longer and will hopefully prevent your metabolism from slowing down too abruptly.

  11. Good for you and best of luck. I think weight is an issue for everyone. Some have more weight than others. I have gone up and down many times and I have finally found a place I am happy. You can do it! Don't be too hard on yourself and love yourself.

  13. Good luck with your weight loss journey. I lost 65 lbs. this past year and it was because I cut sugar and sweets completely out of my diet. You would be surprised how much weight you lose that way.

  15. A lot of my friends have been doing the slimming world diet and have been really successful! You can eat as much as you like, avoiding being hungry and keeping your sugar levels up is the best way, else you will snack on high sugar food for a quick boost.

I find dried apricots are a great snack to keep in the fridge to curb cravings. Also things like green tea help to cleanse and speed up metabolism. Good luck x
