I've been inspired to write this post after a friend added me to a Facebook group titled 'Kellys Mission'
After receiving the news she had Cervical Cancer after her first smear test at the age of 25 years old, Kelly Bridgett-Orme has created this group to spread awareness on the importance of us ladies having our smear tests when due.

My Story - After receiving the all-clear at my first smear, I wasn't too nervous about my second. But a few days after my appointment, I received the dreaded letter that I had minor changes and needed to go to hospital for further investigations. Although the hospital confirmed I had minor changes, thankfully I didn't need any treatment but I do now require annual smears.
I'm dreading my next appointment (due late summer), but I will not bury my head in the sand, I'll be dropping my pants to save my life! ;)
Please don't put it off - call your GP to organise your next smear now. And share this with your friends and encourage them to do the same, oh, anf join Kelly's Mission on Facebook.
It's a good reminder. Sometimes I think the fear of finding cancer stops us from screening, but found early cervical cancer is largely treatable. And that is a good thing! Love the image, by the way. ~Catherine
ReplyDeleteMy first ever smear came back abnormal earlier on this year. I had to go for an examination but the Dr couldn't see any abnormal cells. I did have to go back this month for another but turns out I have just found out I am pregnant.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that they should drop the age of the cervical smear. 25 is leaving it too late
